ON THE WATER

Everyone knows cats are sure-footed, and the Lamborghini C-1 is no different. The long hull with its crisply molded tunnel down the center, adjustable turn fins and rudder combine to produce a very composed boat. When you consider that the 42.7-inch hull is as long as some gas-powered boats, it's no wonder the C-1 handles the way it does. It's doubtful that you could ever find fresh water rough enough to give this hull trouble with its stock power. If it isn't handling perfectly, the variety of adjustments available to the prop/rudder angle and the trim tabs make the C-1 one of the easiest boats to adjust.

The steerable outdrive setup may give some reservations, but personally, I like it on a sport boat. You lose a little efficiency, but the gains in slow-speed maneuvering (particularly in a big boat like this one) are worth it to me.

There are other ways to improve top speed, and that brings me to my only real criticism of the C-1: the engine size. Don't get me wrong, the GS-21MR is a great mill, but for experienced boaters, the .21ci may seem a little too little for a 42-inch hull. On the water, it can produce speeds in the mid- to high-20s, but the hull can take more, so why not give it what it is begging for? Aside from that, the C-1 is a blast to drive and looks great at speed. It's supremely stable and never gives the driver a moment of concern.
